Reasons why I hate “LGBT”
- It’s exclusive. It only lists four identities.
- It’s fake. I have never seen something advertised as LGBT to be for anyone other than white, cisgender, rich gay men and sometimes lesbian women.
- It’s hierarchical. Depending on the person, sometimes it’s GLBT, but the G and the L are always, always first.
- It creates confusion. People start conflating being trans* with being non-hetero. They forget that being trans* is not a sexual orientation. It leads to the assumption that all trans* folks are straight.
